Photovoltaic & Lithium-Ion Battery Wastewater

A process-led approach to your wastewater treatment challenge.

1. Treatment Challenges in PV & Battery Manufacturing

Photovoltaic and lithium-ion battery manufacturing generate different wastewater streams depending on production processes. PV wastewater may contain fluorides, acids, alkalis and suspended solids. Battery manufacturing wastewater may contain dissolved metals, salts, alkaline or acidic constituents and organic process chemicals.

Complex Chemical Composition: Separate wastewater streams may require different pretreatment and material selections.

Fluoride & Metal Removal: Applicable streams may require chemical precipitation, pH control and solid-liquid separation.

Corrosion & Chemical Compatibility: Equipment materials must be matched to acids, alkalis, salts and other process constituents.

Chemical Sludge Management: Precipitation and separation processes can produce sludge requiring characterization, conditioning and appropriate disposal.

2. Treatment Process & Equipment Solutions

Process-Specific Equipment Configuration for PV & Battery Manufacturing

PV and battery manufacturing wastewater require separate process evaluations. The treatment routes below are reference structures rather than universal process designs.

ODMS Equipment Across the Process

Wastewater Transfer: Pumps selected according to fluid chemistry and material compatibility.

Chemical Pretreatment: Chemical dosing systems for pH adjustment, precipitation and flocculation where specified.

Solids Separation: Sludge scrapers, DAF systems and rotary drum microscreen filters only where appropriate to the selected separation process.

Biological Treatment (If Required): Magnetic levitation turbo blowers, disc diffusers, tube diffusers, TPU aeration hoses, submersible mixers and flow propellers for suitable organic wastewater treatment stages.

Sludge Dewatering: Multi-disc screw presses, decanter centrifuges and polymer preparation and dosing systems, subject to chemical sludge properties.

Reference Process — Lithium-Ion Battery Manufacturing

Wastewater Segregation → Equalization / pH Adjustment → Metal Precipitation / Chemical Pretreatment (If Required) → Coagulation & Flocculation → Solid-Liquid Separation → Organic Wastewater Treatment (If Required) → Further Treatment → Discharge / Reuse

Separate Sludge Line: Chemical Sludge → Characterization → Conditioning → Dewatering → Appropriate Disposal

3. Engineered Around Chemical Composition & Process Interfaces

Wastewater Chemistry Review: Assess pH, fluoride, dissolved metals, TDS, COD, TSS, temperature and relevant process chemicals.

Chemical Dosing & Separation Matching: Evaluate reagent requirements, precipitation conditions, solids loading and separation equipment capacity.

Material & Aeration Suitability: Confirm corrosion resistance and, where biological treatment is required, match blower and diffuser equipment to the treated wastewater conditions.

Sludge & Engineering Coordination: Review sludge composition, dewatering requirements, hydraulic connections, control interfaces and maintenance access.

4. Reliability Is Engineered — Not Assumed.

Reliable Configuration: Select equipment materials, components and operating ranges according to chemical composition and treatment requirements.

Precision Engineering: Coordinate dosing, separation, mechanical, electrical and control interfaces with the project design.

Rigorous Delivery Verification: Conduct applicable inspections and functional checks against agreed specifications, with relevant documentation available for review.

5. Get Equipment Recommendations for Your PV or Battery Manufacturing Project

Share your manufacturing process, wastewater analysis, flow rate, fluoride or metal concentrations, treatment objectives, process diagram and equipment specifications. ODMS can review equipment applicability and recommend suitable configurations for the relevant treatment stages.
